Covering the tools used to write poetry - rhyme, meter, metaphor, simile, alliteration, assonance. Covering different forms and types of poetry and talking about it in a fun, interactive way. Reading some of my poems and explaining why I didn't enjoy studying poetry at high school. Also explaining that poetry has no rules, and the poet doesn't need to know any of this to be able to write their own poem. They just need to write, read, listen, and feel their way through the poem. The students will get to write their own poem.
